Shehu Umaru: A film adaptation of Tafawa Balewa’s Novel to Screen at Berlin Film Festival

It appears that Nigeria is obviously making wave each time it comes to film and arts generally.

The latest good news is that a film Adaptation of the book Shehu Umaru by Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who is Nigeria’s first Prime Minister will screen at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.

We learnt that the festival will hold between February 15th to 25th in Berlin. The book Shehu Umaru was written in 1966 but was published in 1971, and was later adapted into film on 1976 by Adamu Haliu, the pioneer Managing Director of Nigerian Film Corporation. The book tells the story of African Slavery.

According to the Managing Director of Nigeria Film Corporation, Chidia Maduekwe, “The German Embassy’s interest in the film stemmed from its storyline, the rich Nigerian culture it portrays in addition to the dexterity and creativity of its production”.

It has been confirmed that Shehu Umaru will be shown at the grand finale of the festival on February 25th. This will definitely cast more light in NOLLYWOOD.
