Coronavirus in Nigeria: Nigerian Cinema Premieres, Film Festivals at risk

As other industries crash due to the spread of the virus, the Nollywood film industry is also at threat of suffering the same fate. Online streaming would be on the rise as people self.

With the rise of the Corona Virus in the country, the government has decided to take safety measures that include shutting down and banning social gatherings in an attempt to curb the fast spreading virus.
With cases being reported across the country including 3 confirmed cases in Lagos, a few in Kastina, Ondo, Enugu and God knows where else. People of every class in the society have been thrown into panic and filmmakers are not left out.
Already the IRepresent International Documentary Film Festival scheduled to begin on March 19th to the 22nd March at the Freedom Park, Lagos has been postponed indefinitely following an understanding of the threat of the virus.

The NollywoodinHollywood (NOHO 2020) scheduled for March 27th to March 28 in carlifonia has also suffered the same fate of indefinite postponement. In foreign news, there have already been several cancellations of festivals, concerts and social gatherings in fear of the deadly coronavirus.
Hence, it wouldn’t be out of place to conclude that the Cinema Premiers scheduled for the coming months, may be cancelled or postponed as this falls under the class of social gatherings that attract a lot of crowd both internationally and locally.
