Covid 19: Filmhouse and Genesis Cinemas cease operations in Lagos

filmhouse-cinemasNigerian Cinema giants Filmhouse and Genesis cinemas have now ceased operations in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos due to Covid19 spread where up to 35 coronavirus cases have now been confirmed along with 1 death in the Nation’s capital, Abuja.

filmhouse-cinemasFilmhouse had films scheduled for cinema viewing in the closing week of March 2020 such as 2 weeks in Lagos, Mama Drama, Unroyal and Bloodshot. Until the Covid 19 virus took hold

Due to Coronavirus, Filmhouse cinemas announced its shut down of their cinemas in Lagos on Sunday saying “…we are temporarily closing all our Lagos cinemas to ensure maximum safety of all our guests and staff”

Since their openinig, neither Genesis Cinemas or Filmhouse have been known to put operations on hold. Which speaks volumes on the toll the Covid 19 virus is having on Lagos state.

Genesis-cinemasGenesis Cinemas was first to announce its unfortunate shut down in the early hours of Sunday morning. They took to their instagram to annouce the news.

“In the light of the latest development with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are taking precautionary measures to suspend all operations at our LAGOS sites effective immediately” They said.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our amazing customers and staff.” In addition.

Nigerian Cinemas are a hub for social gatherings with practises that could endanger many lives.

Film festivals and other cinema premiers have been put on hold for the fear of the Virus is the beginning of wisdom.

This impolers Nigerians to stay safe and observe preventive measures.
