“I Am Anis”: A powerful Nollywood drama advocating Empathy over Judgement.

Mannie Oiseomaye in a collaborative effort with Biodun Stephen as the writers of the movie “I AM ANIS” was inspired by true events, the movie delves into the life of Anisola Williams, a role that was portrayed by Shaffy Bello.

Anisola’s seemingly perfect day unravels unexpectedly, bringing to light long-buried truths to the surface. The movie explores themes of repercussions, rebellion and redemption, with the aim to challenge societal judgements and promote understanding.

The movie starred esteemed actors such as Tina Mba, Lina Idoko, Toyin Oshinaike, Charles Inojie, Debi Adebayo (popularly known as Mr Macaroni), Chimela Nwachukwu, Karen Spikes, Rykardo Agbor and Martha Ehinome Orhiere.

Mannie Oiseomaye, born in Lagos, Nigeria, is a screenwriter and film producer known for his affinity for drama. In 2022, he won the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his work featuring ‘Introducing the Kujus’.

Mannie’s career began in 2017 when he wrote and produced his first short film, ‘Goodwills’, which premiered at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

“I AM ANIS” encourages viewers to reflect on the complexities of human behaviour and the importance of understanding individual struggles.

It is more than a film; it’s a movement that advocates for empathy over Judgement. Biodun Stephen emphasizes this mission, stating, “It is not just a film. It’s a campaign to #NudgeDontJudge.”
