“sometimes, in our lives, fear takes control of out minds and makes us restrain from taking responsibility” JOCA movie

.
In JOCA Short Film, Umanu Elijah delivers a beautiful story told in a simple way with a deep message.
JOCA (Just One Call Away) tells the story of Richard (Kunle Remi), a staunch religious believer returns from a trip exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
His pregnant wife, Kemi (Bolaji Ogunmola), suspects he may have been exposed to the virus and insists they call NCDC to get him tested. He is furious and believes the only Help he needs ‘comes from the Lord’

He denies it but it is obvious he is frightened because he goes in and he begins serious prayers. Kemi sees this and hurries back to call NCDC.
His spiritual belief would rather make him depend on the Word of God for healing than to be kept in an isolation center that he believes looks a prison and he fears he may never have the chance to be with his family again.
As she calls, her husband comes in and sees her with this call before she can give them the address. They quarrel but she is smart and blurts out the address of the house even while they are still talking. Leading the NCDC officials to their home.

JOCA bares no complex plot or no unique camera magic but sells its high point through a fine story and brilliant portrayal of Character.
As at 29th April, over 1500 cases of the Covid-19 virus have been reported in Nigeria. Most of the index cases sprung up from people who were careless and reluctant to turn themselves in after returning from travels. Just like Richard, they believed it is all an ordinary cough and they’d be fine. But they never were.
Umanu Elijah tells the story in JOCA in a beautiful and calm way that when patients at the isolation centres saw it, they were moved to tears.
It is simply deserving of an Award.
