Many producers and movie makers in Nigeria have had an age-long battle with piracy. Many of them invest millions of naira into a movie production and end up reaping half fruits of their labour as street side hawkers take to pirating the movies and selling to make money for their own pockets.
Since Nigerian movies graduated into partnering with cinemas to show their movies, it has gone a long way in helping movie producers gain profit from their sweat, however, the issue of piracy is still a huge one that needs to be treated
Just recently, Nollywood actor, Mike Ezuruonye got furious and decided to take action where necessary. He shared a clip on Instagram where he caught one roadside hawker trying to sell him a pirated copy of a Nigerian movie.
Acting like he wanted to buy it, he seized the copy and threatened to arrest the hawker for doing something illegal and reaping fruits where he had not sown.

Some Nigerians have reacted to the post and some have condemned the action which they state is only punishing the street hawker as the the real perpertuators are still out there. Read some reactions below:

If they are organized they will form a committee and inaugurate people to stop this Piracy stuff bcos it’s becoming very Nasty.. The poor Hawker is actually trying to survive if Mike was wise He would have parked buy the whole CD’s from him and ask him where he gets it from and then start up the real war!!”
