The Black Book, an Editi Effiong’s production, is poised to be Nollywood’s best shot at the global stage since the release of Glamour Girls.
The film is a crime thriller which follows the life of a bereaved deacon fighting for justice. His son is wrongfully framed for kidnapping and murdered by a corrupt police gang. What follows after this is an exciting twist of events involving a nosy journalist, high-end criminals and political forces.
The character list hosts several veteran actors: Richard Mofe Damijo, Sam Dede, Alex Usifo, Iretiola Doyle, Shaffy Bello and budding actors: Olumide Oworu, Ade Laoye, Denola Grey.
After its premiere on Netflix on Friday, 22nd September 2023, the film has gained traction and has quickly climbed the charts to the top as the most-watched movie on Netflix, not just in Nigeria but in other countries.
From Netflix Nigeria’s analytics (September 18 – September 24), the million-dollar blockbuster is No. 1 in Nigeria, No. 4 globally and among the top 10 most-watched movies in 38 countries, including Israel, Argentina, Kenya, Morocco, Finland, Saudi Arabia and others.
